Lake Tahoe Fundraiser for Dolphin

Lake Tahoe, CA – Septmber 14, 2009 – IRIE Rafting and Lake Tahoe Central Adventures are proud to sponsor the 2nd Annual Fish Food Fundraiser to raise funding for Dolphin Anti-Rape and AIDS Control Outreach. Dolphin’s vision is a Kenya free from sexual violence where all women, girls and children are provided the basic safety and liberty to work, study and play without fear. Through innovation and leadership, Dolphin promotes long-lasting awareness and prevention through the formation and training of anti-rape clubs in target groups. Experience has shown that the skills passed on to Kenya women, girls and children have allowed the target population to stop 85% of sexual abuse cases on their own.

“The local support that Dolphin receives here in Lake Tahoe has been enormous and truly is an investment in creating a global community,” said Jennifer Gurecki, West Coast Fundraising and Development Director. “Working with the organization has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life and it has been astounding to see firsthand the positive impact they have on these girls with such few resources. I look forward to once again travel to Kenya this October to support the ongoing efforts of Winnie and Duncan, the founders of Dolphin.”

To get involved locally, individuals are encouraged to organize groups of four to participate in a Scavenger Hunt and Downriver Race on the Lower Truckee River on Sunday, October 4th , 2009. Teams of four will be outfitted with rafts, paddles, PFDs, helmets and one professionally trained guide per boat as they race against the clock and each other to accumulate prizes donated by local businesses and individuals. Prizes include gift certificates from local restaurants, locally donated arts/crafts and a grand prize Middle Fork of the American whitewater rafting trip for four valued at over $600.

Participants and guests alike are invited to an after-race celebration getting underway at 4:00pm on the outside deck at Lake Tahoe Central Adventures with $10 admission good for bottomless mugs of local beer and renown DJs entertaining the crowd. Raffle prizes and giveaways also to take place.

EVENT DETAILS

PLACE & TIME: Meet at the IRIE Rafting/Lake Tahoe Central Adventures office located at the corner of HWY 89 and Squaw Valley Road at 10:00am on Sunday, October 4th, 2009. All transportation to and from the river will be provided. After party on the deck starts at 4:00 p.m. and is open to the public.

COST: $100 donation per boat, no more than 4 people per boat.

AFTER-RACE PARTY: $10 includes bottomless beer mug and raffle ticket.
